Our Story
Why we built Cryptique.
Cryptique was born from a simple observation: the digital asset market had grown into a multi-trillion dollar asset class, yet most sophisticated investors were either staying away entirely or participating in a fragmented, high-risk manner — self-managing wallets, trading on retail exchanges, and making emotional decisions in a market built for algorithms.
Our founders had spent their careers building quantitative trading systems for traditional financial markets. They saw that the same rigour, discipline, and systematic approach that drives success in equities and fixed income could be applied, with even greater effect to the volatility and inefficiencies of digital asset markets.
In 2024, we launched the Cryptique Digital Assets Algo Fund with a clear mandate: provide sophisticated Australian investors with institutional-quality digital asset exposure, complete transparency, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing capital is managed by professionals — not emotion.

Our team combines deep expertise in quantitative finance, blockchain technology, regulatory compliance, and investor relations. Every team member is aligned with our mission through equity and personal investment in the fund.
James Hartley
Founder & Chief Investment Officer
James brings 15 years of quantitative finance experience to Cryptique. Previously Head of Systematic Strategies at a leading Sydney hedge fund, where he managed over $800M AUD in algorithmic equity and derivatives strategies.
James holds an MSc in Financial Mathematics from the University of Sydney and a CFA charterholder. He has been researching digital asset markets since 2017 and leads all investment strategy and algorithm development at Cryptique.
Michael Ross
Head of Compliance & Legal
Michael is a former ASIC regulatory advisor with 12 years of experience in financial services compliance. He has deep expertise in digital asset regulation, managed investment scheme structuring, and AML/KYC frameworks.
Michael oversees all regulatory compliance, investor onboarding, fund documentation, and the maintenance of Cryptique’s AFSL obligations. His regulatory background ensures Cryptique operates to the highest standards of governance.
Amelia Lau
Head of Investor Relations
Amelia spent eight years in private banking and wealth management at two of Australia’s leading financial institutions, where she specialised in alternative investment mandates for high-net-worth clients.
At Cryptique, Amelia leads the investor experience — from initial enquiry through onboarding, ongoing reporting, and relationship management. She is the primary point of contact for all investors.
Priya Tran
Risk Manager
Priya brings seven years of risk management experience from a major Australian investment bank, where she designed and implemented portfolio risk frameworks for multi-asset strategies including commodities and derivatives.
At Cryptique, Priya manages real-time risk monitoring, drawdown controls, and stress-testing procedures. She works closely with James to ensure the fund’s risk-adjusted return targets are consistently maintained.
